Students 15 years through seniors (50+) stay healthy and fit while enjoying the movement and music of dance.

The Adult Division offers stand-alone classes in classical ballet technique, modern, dance exercise, yoga and Pilates. Students may attend as often as their schedules allow. Although attendance is not mandatory, students are encouraged to attend classes regularly in order to make progress, gain strength and have an enjoyable experience.

Adult Waiver 2014-2015: Adult Waiver

An Adult Waiver must be filled out each year prior to starting classes in September.

These are not your typical “dance” classes! An alternative to the “perfect body” standard that permeates our soc1iety, our dance workout program cultivates a welcoming, accepting  atmosphere that promotes health and well-being for all people regardless of ability or background. Rhythm & Motion emphasizes the joyful spirit and open expressiveness of dance and invites it into daily life for individuals, friends, families, and the larger community.

Rhythm & Motion (R&M) was founded in 1979 by Consuelo Faust in San Francisco and has now merged to the east coast through Richmond Ballet!

Rhythm & Motion offers fun, high energy dance-based classes for the general public. All R&M teachers are experienced dancers who draw from a common body of choreography inspired by a popular and international mix of music and dance.

Our dance workout program cultivates a welcoming, accepting atmosphere that promotes health and well-being for all people regardless of background. At R&M, “Anyone Can Dance!”

Rhythm & Motion by Richmond Ballet is now partnering with the Weinstein Jewish Community Center. All classes are drop-in classes (no membership required) and you can pay by class.

Intro to Adult Ballet Fall Registration Form

Course 509A – September Intro to Adult Ballet is FULL.
We are taking registrations for the October and November sessions!

Please register early, as this class tends to fill quickly.

Come join us for an introductory into the world of ballet: Intro to Adult Ballet

This class is designed for the adult who has a hankering to try a ballet class but is either intimidated, self conscious, or just needs a gentle beginning. Susan Massey will teach the class which will meet for four lessons, touching on history, basic technique, and terminology. Each class will incorporate basic barre work and center work, with hopes of building confidence with each class. After all four lessons, the student will transition into the Adult Ballet I class already offered. Only requirements: commit to all four lessons and come dressed in clothes you can easily move in!

 

Beginning Ballet

No experience necessary, however Intro to Adult Ballet (4 week session) is highly recommended for a better introduction into the ballet world.

 

Ballet I/II (Advanced Beginning)

For the person who has had ballet experience but wants/needs a brush-up before entering Ballet II. This class is a good segway from Beginning Ballet to Ballet II.

 

Ballet II

A strong class with complete barre, stretching and center work.

 

Ballet II/III

For the knowledgeable dancer who can move at an accelerated pace. This is our top level.

Open Class Pricing

There are two payment options for Open Classes:

Feel free to take any adult class of your choice by purchasing a Dance Card that gives you the advantage of a discounted class rate.

  • 10 class Dance Card for $140.00, expiring in 4 months
  • Single class tuition allows you to pay for individual classes.

Regular single class: $15.00

Senior rate (over 50): $13.00

***A student rate of $10 is available to College students with a valid student ID card

Modern

Modern dance encourages the student to connect rhythmically to music and movement, address qualities of balance and off balance motion, and to challenge a variety of patterns and styles. This class will begin with an intermediate technique warm-up which will focus on preparing the dancer to address core strength and qualities of release. Students will be encouraged to work with a broad range of ideas to develop risk, versatility, and strength. This energetic and fun class is open to students who have had previous exposure to ballet and/or jazz technique.

Pilates

What is Pilates? The Pilates Method builds long lean muscle without adding bulk and develops the wSRB Ensemble Performance 008hole body in a balanced way. It gives exceptional abdominal strength while improving posture, flexibility, circulation, breathing, and imbalances in strength and alignment, preventing injuries.

Who is Pilates for? Most people willing to work to achieve and maintain a healthy body can use the Pilates Method to do it – regardless of fitness level and at any age from mid-teens to the elderly.

Mat Classes: are one hour long and include work on the Mat plus the Magic Circle Series, the Weight Series and the Wall Series – all of which can be done at home or in a hotel room!

Private Lessons: one-on-one training is the most effective way to get the benefits of the Pilates Method because instruction is tailored in great detail for each client’s specific body and way of learning. Lessons are 60 minutes and include work on all the apparatus designed by Joseph Pilates plus the Mat work and the other series taught in Mat Classes.

 Yoga

Yoga is a mind-body practice that combines stretching, controlled breathing and relaxation. The postures are a series of movements designed to increase strength and flexibility in the body. The breath work helps you control your body and quiet your mind. Yoga also… reduces stress, improves concentration, stimulates circulation, aides in digestion and weight loss, provides balance, inspires creativity, and creates connection.

The best thing about yoga is that it is for everyone! In this ALL LEVELS class learn a Vinyasa yoga series that will relax your mind, energize and strengthen your body and most importantly leave you feeling CALM and HAPPY.
