*Please note some children may be asked to stay for the next audition time.
These auditions are for dancing roles in the student cast of “The Nutcracker.” Girls 7 years of age and boys 9 years of age with a minimum of two years of ballet training should audition. Students auditioning for roles in the 4’9” and up height range should be of an intermediate ballet level or higher.
**Students 5’0” and over who are of an advanced/advanced intermediate ballet level and have been en pointe for a minimum of 3 years should bring pointe shoes to the audition.
Please be aware that students who are cast must be available to attend all rehearsals and costume fittings for which they are called, and perform in any of The Nutcracker performances to which they are assigned. Rehearsals occur once each weekend for as many as eleven weeks. Also, the Norfolk Nutcracker student cast will travel to Richmond for a Sunday rehearsal with the professional company. Please also understand that while performing in The Nutcracker is an exciting and rewarding experience, there is a considerable commitment required from parents as well as students, with transportation of the students to rehearsals and performances.
The Nutcracker is a professional production of Richmond Ballet. The selection of all performers is the responsibility of Richmond Ballet, Artistic Staff and School faculty, who will be making casting decisions based on subjective judgment. Poise, size, and talent for the choreography are the primary selection factors. Please note that in meeting the requirements of the production, the artistic staff and faculty may sometimes go outside the parameters of student height, student age and cast size in order to cast the production adequately. This is at the sole discretion of the artistic staff and faculty.
Special thanks to Todd Rosenlieb Dance for providing studio space, teachers and faculty while Richmond Ballet tours in Norfolk.
