Lecture Demonstrations

Exciting and educational performances for elementary students

Richmond Ballet brings the language of dance into schools across Virginia. Our in-school adaptations of classic ballets provide unique opportunities to see professional dancers up close and personal. Designed specifically for young audiences, our 45-minute reimagined story ballets provide students with invaluable opportunities to interact with professional dancers. Complete with music, a narrator, and a small cast of dancers, our interactive, high-quality performances introduce students to the language of ballet through a combination of storytelling and dance.

2017-2018 School Year

Richmond Ballet will present an adaptation of The Sleeping Beauty. Travel to a time long ago. Search for fairies, celebrate the birthday of Princess Aurora, and help the Prince find the castle. The retelling of this classic fairytale will have audiences captivated throughout and ready to dance for joy in the end.

Extending the experience

A teacher’s guide

This teacher’s guide includes student activities to do before and after the performance. The guide offers suggested lessons that lend themselves to differentiation and encourages teachers to be as creative and in-depth as they wish. The lesson ideas tie in with curriculum and Virginia SOL objectives; extending the performance experience into the classroom.
