2017-2018 Richmond Ballet Youth Performances

Reservations are now being accepted for the 2017-2018 Youth Performances which are open to pre-K through 12th grade students and their teachers. Public and independent school groups and home-school co-ops are welcome. Children under the age of four will not be admitted.

When school groups arrive the curtain is open, the production crew is doing a final check and dancers are taking their places for the top of the show. This behind-the-scenes glimpse described by Outreach Director, Cat Studdard, educates and informs students and teachers prior to the start of the ballet.

Once upon a time and long ago there lived a beautiful princess named Aurora. She was loved by all throughout the Kingdom. But, the evil fairy, Carabosse, curses Aurora and on her 16th birthday the princess pricks her finger and appears doomed. As the story unfolds, we are introduced to Fairies, Nymphs, Puss ‘N Boots, and Bluebird, while treated to some of the most universally famous pieces of choreography including the Rose Adagio and the wedding’s final grand pas de deux. This classic fairytale is brought to life through the choreography by Marius Petipa and staged by Malcolm Burn with music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The enchanting ballet has something for everyone.
