The Ambassadors has been designated as the featured performance group to represent the Minds In Motion program. As Minds In Motion has grown, requests for performances throughout the community have increased substantially, and the Ambassadors have become superb role models. Richmond Ballet’s Minds In Motion Ambassadors is a group of youthful, diverse, high-energy dancers that combine movement and rhythmic patterning into exciting and intricate choreography. This group of over 40 5th – 8th grade advanced Minds In Motion students participate in an after-school scholarship class twice a week. This program has enabled students to transition to classes at The School of Richmond Ballet.
This year, Richmond Ballet’s Minds In Motion Ambassadors will be sharing and spinning the tale of Anansi, the Spider Man, across the Richmond Area. A classic Ashanti culture (in modern day Ghana) trickster legend, Anansi becomes the God of Stories. Even though he is a small spider, he uses his cunning and intelligence to prove his worth, overpowering creatures much larger and stronger than himself. With respect for his accomplishments, the Sky King bestows all the stories of the world to Anansi, who selflessly does not hoard them, but releases them across the earth, creating a vast web of stories, uniting people who may seem far apart, but are all a part of Anansi’s web and Anansi’s story.
