Welcome to Richmond Ballet Outreach Programming
Built upon Artistic Director Stoner Winslett’s vision to give back to the community through the memorable experience of movement and dance, the acclaimed Minds In Motion program seeks to share the organization’s mission with elementary school students around Richmond and beyond. Through Minds In Motion, the Ballet creates a bridge starting in fourth grade for students to gain a greater understanding of themselves through dance, classroom curriculum, community partnerships, and professional performances.
Minds In Motion, comprised of both year-long programs, two-week residencies, and summer camps, reaches over 2,000 students locally in Richmond, Chesterfield, Independent Schools, statewide in Charlottesville and Portsmouth, and internationally in Israel each year. Professional teaching artists and musicians bring their love and experience of dance to each Minds In Motion student while embodying one the Ballet’s core beliefs that dance has a special and unique power to uplift our lives and to reinforce community bonds. Our young Minds In Motion dancers jump, twist, shake, and stomp as they come together from all walks of life to share a transformative, meaningful arts experience that is the only program of its kind in the Commonwealth. Through our audition-based Ambassador program, former Minds In Motion students receive scholarships to continue their dance training at School of Richmond Ballet and perform as representatives of the Minds In Motion program at community events.
It’s the New Year, time of resolutions and new beginnings. In Minds In Motion, we’re also starting a new chapter—literally.
