Welcome to Richmond Ballet Outreach ProgrammingCat Studdard

Welcome to Richmond Ballet Outreach! We are dedicated to bringing the unique and special power of dance to communities across Virginia and across the Atlantic in Israel.  Our 2017-18 year began with our engaging adaptation of The Sleeping Beauty traveling to all Chesterfield County Elementary Schools as well as elementary schools in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. Here’s what students and teachers are saying about The Sleeping Beauty performance, “Excellent in every way! “ “My students were copying the dance moves at recess. “ “They kissed….ewww!”

Following the wonderful success in Portsmouth, the Minds in Motion residency program returned to Richmond. Teaching Artists, Ben Malone and Susannah Piersol, were joined by musician, Bentley Cobb, to bring the joy and athleticism of dance to the 4th-graders at St. Christopher’s School. The boys wowed the students at their in-school performance and got everyone dancing and exercising their historical thinking skills at the community performance

In the New Year, the residency program is off to Israel, for a cross-cultural, multi-lingual celebration of movement. Meanwhile, participants in the year-long Minds in Motion program have formally begun work on their culminating performance. Soon they will be ready to share a sneak peek of the finale dance at school PTO meetings. From there, it’s a surprisingly short road to the big stage!

Minds In Motion culminating performances will take place at Dominion Energy Center’s Carpenter Theatre in Richmond, VA, on April 26th and 27th and at Martin Luther King, Jr. Performing Arts Center in Charlottesville, VA, on May 31st. Save the date!!

It’s also a chance for the students to ask questions, everything from: “How do you jump so high” and “why are you wearing tights” to “What was your inspiration to learn ballet” and “What’s…
