Back to the river, jump in…

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for! This week our Minds In Motion (MIM) students, both in Richmond and Charlottesville, begin work on the first of the dances that will premiere in our MIM Culminating Performances in April and June. This particular dance comes at the end of the show, not at the beginning–it’s called the Finale.

Big splash, Big splash!

We take all the basic steps, musical qualities, and important facts we’ve learned about the Rappahannock Tribe of Virginia and we start to build a dance. As we learn choreography (steps linked together to create a dance) we also learn words that will help us tell the story of the Rappahannock Tribe. “Back to the river, jump in…” helps us remember our choreography as we practice and perfect our dance skills! Like the Rappahannock Tribe of Virginia, who go back into nature to discover their place in the world, we go back to the river to begin their story…

Back to the river, jump in!
