Richmond Ballet Studio Theatre

Richmond Ballet is located at 407 East Canal Street in downtown Richmond, just off the Downtown Expressway, near Brown's Island, the Canal Walk, and the James River. Our facilities are housed in the large gray building found on the south side of East Canal Street between 5th and 4th Streets.

Parking: During Studio Theatre performances parking is available on the street surrounding the Ballet building.

From the North Driving South On I-95
(from Henrico, Hanover, Northern VA, Washington, and points north)

  • Take Exit 74-A (Downtown Expressway).
  • Take the first exit (Canal Street). Pay 25¢ toll. You will be heading west on Canal Street.
  • Richmond Ballet will be approximately 5-6 blocks ahead on the left, on Canal between 5th and 4th Streets.

From the West, Driving East On I-64
(from the far West End and Charlottesville)

  • I-64 will merge with I-95 South. Follow directions above.

    OR

  • From I-64, take Exit 186 for Rt. 195 (Powhite/Downtown Expressway).
  • Follow signs for Downtown Expressway.
  • Pay .50¢ toll. Take 2nd exit, for 2nd Street & Byrd Avenue.
  • Stay on Byrd for 3 blocks. Turn left on 5th Street, then the next left on Canal. You will be immediately in front of the Ballet building, on Canal between 5th and 4th Streets.

From the South, Driving North On I-95
(from Chesterfield, Tri-Cities, Eastern North Carolina and points south)

  • Take Exit 74-A (Downtown Expressway).
  • Take the first exit (Canal Street). Pay .50¢ toll. You will be heading west on Canal Street.
  • Richmond Ballet will be approximately 5-6 blocks ahead on the left, on Canal between 5th and 4th Streets.

From the East, Driving West On I-64
(from the airport, Norfolk, VA Beach)

  • Approaching downtown, get in MIDDLE lane. Follow the signs for the 5th Street/Downtown exit.
  • Stay on 5th Street, passing the Coliseum and the Convention Center, and cross over Broad Street. Go five more blocks. Turn right on Canal Street. You will be immediately in front of the Ballet building, on Canal between 5th and 4th Streets.

From the Fan & Near West End

  • Drive downtown using Broad, Franklin, or Cary Streets. Turn right on 5th Street.
  • Stay on 5th Street, going five blocks from Broad, three blocks from Franklin, or one block from Cary. Turn right on Canal Street. You will be immediately in front of the Ballet building, on Canal between 5th and 4th Streets.

  • Take your favorite route to Rt. 195 South.
  • Follow signs for Downtown Expressway.
  • Pay .50¢ toll. Take 2nd exit, for 2nd Street & Byrd Ave.
  • Stay on Byrd for 3 blocks. Turn left on 5th Street, then the next left on Canal. You will be immediately in front of the Ballet building, on Canal between 5th and 4th Streets.

From the Southwest
(from South Side Richmond, Bon Air, Brandermill, Danville, Western NC)

  • Take your favorite route to Rt. 76 North (Powhite Parkway). Tolls will vary depending on where you get on the Powhite.
  • After crossing the James River, bear right, following signs for the Downtown Expressway.
  • Pay 50¢ toll. Take 2nd exit, for 2nd Street & Byrd Avenue.
  • Stay on Byrd for 3 blocks. Turn left on 5th Street, then the next left on Canal. You will be immediately in front of the Ballet building, on Canal between 5th and 4th Streets.

    OR

  • Take your favorite route to the Lee Bridge.
  • Immediately after crossing the James River, take exit for 2nd Street.
  • Go to first light, and turn right on Byrd Street.
  • Stay on Byrd for 3 blocks. Turn left on 5th Street, then the next left on Canal. You will be immediately in front of the Ballet building, on Canal between 5th and 4th Streets.
