Richmond Ballet to be featured on CBS Sunday Morning
RICHMOND - Richmond Ballet, the State Ballet of Virginia, will appear this weekend on CBS Sunday Morning
(broadcast locally on Richmond CBS affiliate WTVR Channel 6) in a
segment featuring long-time Richmond Ballet collaborator, Glenn Crider,
a nationally-known crafts artisan. Mr. Crider designed and created the
actual Nutcracker dolls that Richmond Ballet uses in its annual
production of the holiday classic. The interview for the CBS Sunday Morning segment will air this Sunday, December 20 from 9:00 - 10:30 am EST.
- In 2008, Mr.
Crider received national attention when four of his Nutcrackers
appeared on 1.3 Billion United States Post Office official holiday
stamps.
- The Richmond Ballet production of The Nutcracker
serves as an inspiration for Mr. Crider's work. He has created limited
edition Nutcrackers for Richmond Ballet since 1999. The doll that Clara
dances with onstage was also created by Mr. Crider.
- The long-standing
relationship with Richmond Ballet will be mentioned by Mr. Crider and
the segment will feature still photos and video of the Richmond Ballet
production.
- Mr. Crider, who
lives in Mechanicsville, is one of only a handful of artisans who
employ the 400-step traditional process used by the old European
Nutcracker craftsmen.
