Minds In Motion Team XXL works with guest instructor Chris Burnside
September 10th, 2013
On the first day of Team XXL, our 5th through 8th graders met with a special guest instructor, Chris Burnside.
Chris Burnside began his dance training in Richmond, Virginia with Frances Wessells. As a dancer, he was a member of the Bella Lewitzky Dance Company in Los Angeles and performed with Tim Miller, John Bernd, Jane comfort, and Johanna Boyce in New York City. He has a BFA in Communication Arts and Design and an MM in Dance. His choreography has been presented around the country to acclaim and in Richmond with the Richmond Ballet. He has been on the dance faculty at UCLA and at Virginia Commonwealth University. At VCU he served as Chair of the Department of Dance and Choreography and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs in the School of the Arts. He is currently teaching in the Dance Program at Elon University. His career has been especially influenced by Nancy Smith Fichter and Richard Carlyon.
In their first experience with Burnside, the Team XXL dancers explored personal choice of movement led by the guidance of Burnside, which allowed each individual to set their own experience with no wrong answer, but rather an unlimited possibility of movement created by themselves.
